Therapy for adults in Illinois, built for lasting change.
You have probably tried to push it away. Stay busy. Avoid certain places. Tell yourself it was a long time ago.
If that worked, you would not be here.
Trauma lives in the nervous system. Your brain learned that something was dangerous, and it has not updated the file. So it keeps reacting. Nightmares. Tension. Irritability. Shutdown. Always scanning. That is not a weakness. It is an unfinished response.
Unfinished responses can be processed.
Over time, trauma reactions lose their intensity and show up less often. You are not constantly bracing for something bad to happen. Daily life starts to feel more manageable instead of draining.

Services are designed to address the patterns and responses that keep your body and mind under strain. Each approach is chosen thoughtfully, with a focus on helping you work through what has been holding you back.
EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing) is one of the most researched treatments for trauma and PTSD. It helps your brain reprocess distressing memories so they lose their emotional charge.
We move methodically. First, build stability and coping skills. Then targeting specific memories at a pace you can handle.
The goal is not to erase what happened. The goal is to help your brain file it correctly so it no longer feels present.
Not all trauma looks dramatic. Sometimes it is a single event. Sometimes it is repeated stress over time.
You may notice irritability, shutdown, difficulty trusting, or feeling constantly on edge. You know the event is over, but your body still reacts as if it is not.
Treatment focuses on identifying the experiences that shaped those reactions and helping your nervous system process them so they no longer drive your present.
PTSD often shows up as intrusive memories, nightmares, avoidance, hypervigilance, or emotional numbness. You might find yourself scanning for danger or bracing for something to go wrong.
PTSD is not a character flaw. It is a trauma response that has not completed its cycle. With structured, evidence based treatment, those symptoms can decrease in intensity and frequency.
Keystone Mental Health is built around helping people who feel stuck find a way forward. Many of the people who reach out are worn down from trying to manage anxiety, trauma, depression, or relationship problems on their own.
Eric Koll, LCSW, works with adults and couples using focused, evidence-based therapy to identify what’s actually keeping those patterns in place. The goal is not surface-level coping, but meaningful change that makes daily life feel more manageable again.
I work with adults in Illinois who are dealing with trauma or PTSD. Many of my clients are high-functioning. They are working, managing responsibilities, and still feel stuck.
I am a staunch ally. Everyone is welcome here.
My practice is 100% virtual and serves clients throughout Illinois. The approaches I use are just as effective online as in person, and you’ll receive a secure session link and a reminder once your appointment is scheduled.
Yes! I accept Aetna, BlueCross and BlueShield, Cigna, Evernorth, Optum, and UnitedHealthcare. Coverage can vary by plan, so it’s a good idea to check with your insurance provider if you have questions about benefits or copays.
We start by building stability. Then we identify the specific memories and patterns that are keeping your nervous system activated. Once you are ready, we process those memories directly using evidence-based treatment.
That is common. Trauma does not resolve just because time passes. If it were going to fix itself, it likely would have by now.
“Eric made me feel heard. He helped me find a strength I didn’t know I had.”
“I didn’t know that I could get better so quickly. I’d been carrying this anxiety forever! I wish I would have called years ago.”
“Eric is a genuinely compassionate soul. He understands PTSD better than anyone in my life. It sometimes felt like he knew what I felt before I could say it aloud.”
“I found the courage that I needed to work through my past. I didn’t think I’d ever be able to do that.”
“I’m so glad that I trusted the process and found Eric. I’d been in therapy before but never did evidence-based therapy. It helped more than anything I’ve ever done. This guy knows what he’s talking about.”
You already have what it takes to move forward, even if it’s hard to see right now. Therapy can help clear what’s been weighing you down and create a path toward a more grounded, purposeful life. I’m here to help guide that process.
